Full-Time Youth Worker for the Parish of St John’s, Woking

Us: Biblical, conservative evangelical, fun, friendly, growing, dynamic, with a membership of around 300.

Opportunity: a chance to design, develop and grow a Christian youth work as you see best. It’s almost a blank canvass for you to fill in!
We need a youth leader…
·         with the experience, motivation and maturity to grow our small work
if you haven’t done that, this isn’t the job for you!
·         with a great heart for God
if you’re not walking closely with, and depending on, Him, this isn’t the job for you!
·         with a love for his word and the ability to teach the Bible relevantly and dynamically
if you don’t love the Bible, this isn’t the job for you!
·         with great interpersonal skills, who can inspire, train and motivate leaders, and get alongside the youth to disciple them
if you’re not a people person, this isn’t the job for you!
·         with an ability to get out there and present Jesus as the one to follow
if you aren’t fired up for evangelism this isn’t the job for you!
·         with a great sense of fun and endless energy!!
So, no pressure then! But we really are that keen on making Christ known to the young people around here! Is it you that God wants to join us? We’re very excited!

This post is subject to an Occupational Requirement that the post holder is a committed Christian under Part 1 of Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010.
What have we got?
·         a small Sunday Pathfinder group (about 8), mostly committed Christians age 11-14
·         a growing Tuesday Pathfinder Club (20), mostly not Christians
·         a small Friday Club (10), mostly not Christians age 14-18
·         very keen committed assistant leaders (lots)
·         an open door into the local secondary school ( what a catchment area!)
·         a congregation and staff team who will back you to the hilt
·         a one bed flat but we could rent other accommodation if there’s more than one of you!
·         a salary package of £21,600 plus 5% pension contribution, housing and a brand new Apple MacBook Pro!
·         Full expenses reimbursed, subject to an agreed annual budget
·        An office in our brilliantly equipped youth centre opposite the church (albeit shared with our Children’s & Families worker!)
More stuff about us you might want to know:
·         Tony Cannon, joined as Vicar last January with his wife Lynn. He was trained at Oak Hill, is a member of Reform and regularly attends EMA and Proclamation Trust minister’s conferences.
·         Our Oak Hill-trained curate left last summer. The PCC decided to seek further funding from the congregations to pay for a full-time Associate Minister due to the size and growth of the church. They have signed up to additional giving to fund this post for 4 years. We have appointed an exceptional Oak Hill man who starts at Easter.
·        Our PCC signed the Jerusalem Statement (fca.net/resources/the_jerusalem_declaration/) and we would expect any applicant to be comfortable with that as a statement of faith.
Timescales and what to do next:
·         If you think you might be interested, why not call Tony (not Wednesdays) for an informal chat on 01483-761253?
·         Closing date for applications is midnight February 19th.
·         We will meet to short-list on 21st and will let you know a.s.a.p.
·         If you are short-listed, we will take up references at that point.
·         Interviews and various assessment tasks will be held on Monday 5th March. It will be a full day and evening, so if you’re travelling a distance we can offer accommodation.
·         An application form can be downloaded here
·         Can’t think of anything else. Over to you…….
